UNIVERSITY OF CAMERINO: GREEN DISPOSAL OF CHICKEN MANURE, IT IS NOT A “CHIMERA”

“Organic farms, zero-impact production cycles… to complete the virtuous cycle, for example in poultry farms, it is also necessary to deal with the green disposal of chicken manure. This is what is being done thanks to the CHIMERA project, which has obtained European funding thanks to the LIFE programme, and to which the research group led by Prof. Enrico Marcantoni, of UNICAm, University of Camerino (Italy), the School of Science and Technology, also collaborates “: thus the webmagazine “SCIENZA E LODE” (SCIENCE AND PRAISE) of UNICAM University of Camerino introduced the CHIMERA project. With UNICAM, 3P Engineering (Coordinating Beneficiary of CHIMERA and engineering company that developed the new waste-to-energy technology of chicken manure into fertilizer and energy) has deepened the studies on the possibilities of ammonia abatement and the treatment of tarry material, starting from analysis of various techniques known in the literature and which include biological, physical and chemical methods. Most of the known approaches, however, are quite expensive and require a high degree of maintenance, but from the analysis carried out by the University of Camerino team, the biomass-based dry filter appears to be an economic and ecological option. In particular, the tar removal efficiency of bio-based filters increases in the presence of scrubbers, as in the case of the CHIMERA plant, validating the engineering choices for the construction of the project’s Pilot Plant.
