EUAB: NEW ENTRY FOR CHIMERA

New members have joined the EUAB-External User Advisory Board of CHIMERA: since the beginning of 2021, the advisory committee made up of various stakeholders (institutions, research centers, breeders, plant producers) has enlarged thanks to the participation of new exponents from the academic world, the poultry sector and other European projects with which new networking activities have begun. All contributions both from a technological point of view and to meet market needs, are screened by the CHIMERA team, in order to contribute to the development of the LIFE project that aims to solve the management of manure in an innovative way, according to principles of circular economy. Those who join the EUAB are constantly updated on the progress of the project and are invited to participate in workshops, and compatibly with the pandemic situation, visits to prototypes and the pilot plant in the Netherlands. Feedback is essential to ensure that CHIMERA can have developments in other areas as well, transferring its concept to other management contexts of the organic waste / biomass cycle with replicability studies. CHIMERA ON LINKEDIN

CHIMERA lands on Linkedin to increase the visibility on the web of the LIFE project (GA n. LIFE15 ENV / IT / 000631), with the aim of Dissemination and Networking. A new showcase in particular, for stakeholders and for new links with other European projects with which activities and strategies for the poultry world and chicken manure approaches can be shared. As a network dedicated to professionals and companies, Linkedin is the first social chosen for CHIMERA to provide updates on the progress of the project and news, with photo galleries and videos that will enrich the contents, also in view of the continuous cycle operating year of CHIMERA, once the Pilot Plant it is transferred to the partner Renders & Renders in the Netherlands. To follow the updates of the CHIMERA profile and share them, just connect to https://it.linkedin.com/showcase/life-chimera and become a follower. Follow Chimera

“TERRA e VITA”: LIFE CHIMERA and LIFE POREM

Reference magazine for the agricultural world, the weekly “Terra e Vita” (no. 22 2021) dedicated an article to CHIMERA in the "Technique and Technology" section. Thanks to the networking activity with POREM (LIFE17 ENV / IT / 000333), the service highlighted the innovative potential of the two projects, both aimed at proposing sustainable solutions for the poultry market. Starting from the common goal of transforming chicken-manure from problem to opportunity, the article highlights the diversity of the approaches of the two strategies. In the case of LIFE CHIMERA the highly polluting and responsible waste of greenhouse gas emissions (chicken-manure) is managed with the transformation into fertilizer, thermal and electrical energy according to the principle of circular economy; in the case of LIFE POREM, the manure is treated in a specific way, such as to allow the restoration of the soil and avoid its degradation, essentially producing a bio-activator based on poultry manure for better management of the soil through bio rehabilitation, whereas it is estimated that 45% of European soils are potentially subject to degradation. WORKSHOP “REVISION OF THE INDUSTRIAL DIRECTIVE – CONSULTATIONS”

On behalf of the European Commission (DG Environment) a Ricardo-led consortium is organising a number of consultation activities within the context of the “Revision of the Industrial Emissions Directive”. Ricardo is a global strategic engineering and environmental consultancy that specialises in the transport, energy and scarce resources sectors: the first workshop for stakeholders was on 15 December 2020 and the second workshop took place on 7 July 2021. Some different Policy Options have been considered: more effective IED;  more effective and ambitious on innovation; more effective and ambitious on chemicals, resource efficiency and circular economy; more effective and a more central role in decarbonising industry; cross-cutting measures addressing new sectors i.e. scope extensions. NETWORKING LIFE PROJECTS: CHIMERA AND AGRESTIC

CHIMERA (GA n. LIFE15 ENV / IT / 000631) and LIFE AGRESTIC (LIFE17 CCM/IT/000062)- have organized a networking presentation, aimed at sharing the mutual approaches of the two LIFE projects and identifying the common objectives. The event, which took place as online meeting on 7 July 2021, allowed an open discussion on complementary issues, in particular with regard to the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, considering the EU target of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 (compared to 1990 levels). Each year the disposal of manure causes the emission of 25 million tons of greenhouse gases: the CHIMERA project is equipped with a fume treatment plant to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and contribute in an innovative way to the evolution of chicken manure management in poultry farms.

As well as one of the main objectives of the AGRESTIC project is the development of innovative techniques and tools for the management of crops and crop rotations in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to climate change mitigation, increasing the agronomic performances of crops and the economic sustainability of farmers.
